Where Faith and Knowledge Meet

Supporting education and innovation.

MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of St. David of Wales Catholic School to consistently provide a safe environment for academic and spiritual growth. Our school fosters the teachings of Jesus Christ in our students by promoting Catholic values. We prioritize moral and social responsibility and academic achievement. We cultivate global citizens in a culturally diverse community by promoting respect for all of God’s creations.

Welcome to our “little school on the big hill”!

A little history on us:

St. David of Wales Parish was established in 1951 as part of the San Francisco Archdiocese while the adjoining school, St. David of Wales Catholic School, opened in 1963 with only four grades within the street level area of the building. For every year after 1963, a new grade was added until there were a total of eight grades. During this time, the lower level of the school building was completed, adding more classrooms and a parish hall (now called Rose Mello Hall), our Kindergarten program in 1982, our Pre-Kindergarten in 1987, and the school remained staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame who left twenty years after the school’s opening in 1984.

St. David of Wales Catholic School (commonly shortened to “St. David School”), as of now, has a lay principal, staff and faculty. We also have 2 locations, our Pre-K building on 5613 Garvin Avenue, and our main Kindergarten - 8th grade building on 871 Sonoma Street—both located in Richmond, CA. The school is very proud to have been the recipient of a National Award for Excellence in Education in 1985 and to have been able to add a a science lab and computer lab in 1992 to the main school building.

St. David School is accredited through Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA)

Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to St. David!

I am delighted to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you all as we embark on another exciting academic year at St. David of Wales Catholic School. It is with great pleasure that I invite you to explore our virtual home, where “Faith and Knowledge meet.”

At St. David Catholic School, we are guided by a powerful motto that serves as the cornerstone of our educational journey. “Where faith and knowledge meet” is not just a phrase; it is a reflection of our core values and beliefs. We believe that education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. It encompasses the nurturing of both the mind and the spirit.

Our dedicated team of educators is committed to providing a holistic learning experience that empowers our students with the tools of knowledge while also nurturing their faith, values, and character. We understand that each student is unique, and we strive to create an environment where they can explore their potential, ask questions, and develop a strong moral compass.

As we navigate the path of education together, we aim to instill in our students a deep sense of purpose, empathy, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world around them. We believe that when faith and knowledge come together, our students are not only well-prepared for academic success but also equipped to become compassionate and responsible global citizens.

We also encourage open communication between our school and families. Your partnership with us is essential in creating a supportive and enriching educational experience for your child. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions, ideas, or concerns you may have.

Thank you for choosing St. David as your educational [potential] home, where faith and knowledge converge to inspire, educate, and empower our students. We look forward to an exciting year ahead filled with growth, discovery, and shared accomplishments.

In faith and knowledge,

Ms. Mariflor Medrano

Principal, St. David of Wales Catholic School
